Olivia can summarize her experience as an intern in two words: nonstop action.
Olivia spent 10 weeks in our licensing group within our Global Tools & Storage business where, as part of an innovation team, she helped develop a product and pitch its value before a panel of leaders. Having the opportunity to volunteer through projects like building a new home with Habitat for Humanity appealed to Olivia, as well.
“Something I noticed right away is that Stanley Black & Decker is a company that gives back to the community and aligns with my personal values,” she said.
Olivia said she also appreciated a work environment that acknowledged you must sometimes fail in order to succeed.
“There was a lot of trial and error in the projects I was working on, and I learned to put in the work and trust the process,” she said. “It was a true hands-on experience, and the work was really impactful to me and to the company.”
Olivia said her summer internship also provided opportunities to network, as well as practice her communications skills. She also appreciated the open-door policy of senior executives, who were available for mentoring.
“It was just a great learning environment,” Olivia said. “We felt accepted within the company and we were able to ask any questions. You definitely didn’t feel like an intern, you felt like part of a team.”
