We have always been For those who make the world™.
That’s why we focus our philanthropy initiatives on serving as a force multiplier to support and align with our business priorities: growing the trades, empowering our people and responding to events that need our tools and expertise.
We are directing significant philanthropic resources to fund initiatives that train tradespeople in an effort to address the skilled trades gap in the construction and building industries, such as concrete, pipe, mechanical and finishing trades.
Pat Hallinan“Tradespeople are our end-users, and they are in high demand. Building a Better World…Together
Nonprofits are critical partners in helping us close the skilled trades gap and supporting communities where we operate. Collaboration with nonprofits multiplies efforts to strengthen the construction industry and train tradespeople in trades like concrete, plumbing, mechanical, electrical and finishing with critical skills in safety, product use and other practices to support their career growth.
We continue to work with organizations in key communities where we operate, including in the state of Connecticut, where we have been headquartered since 1843. In 2023, we launched a Workplace Partnership Initiative, bringing together stakeholders across the state, including universities, technical schools, nonprofits, corporations, industry groups, the state government and students, to set key performance indicators for digital skilling and to establish and resource a statewide training program to provide underserved communities in the state with pathways to digital skilling.
We engage policymakers to drive business objectives, including policies and other political outcomes affecting markets where we operate and that we access around the world. Specific areas of interest include policies and regulations related to our products, tax and trade issues. Governments are an essential partner in creating a favorable business environment for our end-users and other stakeholders.
Our industry consists of suppliers, manufacturers, retailers, contractors and end-users. We regularly collaborate with these entities to position the industry for success. In 2023, we collaborated with the National Association of Manufacturers to support programs bringing women into manufacturing and the Power Tool Institute on areas improving product standards and regulations.
Making a Profound Impact
Trades-related education has been prominently featured in our philanthropic efforts, and we’re already seeing the results of these programs and initiatives. In alignment with our priority goal to Grow the Trades, we have heightened our focus on supporting the development of both the people currently working in the industry and the next generation of tradespeople.
