In the Pride & Allies ERG, we’re advocating for our LGBTQ+ employees. By creating avenues for people to share their experiences openly, we’re showing how to treat everyone with dignity and respect. Through these efforts, we’re hoping to create a culture where everyone feels supported and accepted.

Tyler’s career journey at Stanley Black & Decker started with a college internship. After graduating, he accepted a position to return to the Company. He credits the supportive community and workplace culture as the reason he wanted to continue developing his career here.

“I love seeing how people will go the extra mile to get the job done and support other members of the team when they need it,” he says. “It is a very rare quality in a company, and I’ve continued to see it every day over the past nine years here.”

Tyler currently works as a Product Manager, focusing on growth opportunities for the Miter Saws category. Leading a cross-functional team, he helps develop new products that address our end-users’ needs. He works closely with the sales and marketing teams to create new distribution channels and with manufacturing teams to ensure we’re producing enough products to fulfill customer demands.

“My favorite part of the job is seeing an end-user’s excitement for a new product,” he shares. “Hearing them say ‘This is exactly what I need to get my job done’ makes all the hard work worth it.”

Taking an Active Role in Fostering Our Inclusive Culture

Tyler serves as the global co-chair for our Pride & Allies Employee Resource Group (ERG), which supports and advocates for our LGBTQ+ employees. “In the Pride & Allies ERG, we focus on recruiting, retaining and advancing the careers and personal journeys of each individual,” he explains.

He and the other members of Pride & Allies host educational events, attend informative summits and establish an environment where people can discuss their experiences. “By creating avenues for people to share their experiences openly, we're showing how to treat everyone with dignity and respect. Through these efforts, we're hoping to create a culture where everyone feels supported and accepted."

In his role, Tyler is currently helping grow Pride & Allies’ worldwide footprint. “While each location presents its own challenges, it also offers a unique opportunity to engage with and educate others about our community,” he shares. “With this focus on expansion of impact, we hope that all LGBTQ+ employees can feel supported wherever they are based.”

As we continue building an inclusive culture, Tyler emphasizes the value of learning from one another’s experiences and details an initiative aimed at facilitating open discussion. “Our new reverse mentorship program teaches leaders the best practices for engaging members of the LGBTQ+ community on their teams,” he states. “By participating in our trainings, employees can learn more about the experiences of LGBTQ+ individuals.”

Seeing Pride Flags raised across our participating facilities lets me know that my voice matters and shows that I can be my authentic self and be accepted here — not just during Pride Month but all year round. I'm proud to work for a company that's willing to publicly demonstrate that it stands for inclusion and support for all people.

The Results of Our Efforts

Encouraged by the results, Tyler has witnessed a growth in acceptance and advocacy for the LGBTQ+ community. “We recently interviewed our LGBTQ+ employees about their experiences here,” he says. “It warmed my heart to learn that the vast majority of their experiences coming out at work were positive.”

Tyler appreciates Stanley Black & Decker’s commitment to commemorating and celebrating Pride Month, including the Pride Flag raising ceremonies hosted at our New Britain, CT, Towson, MD and Valley City, OH locations.
