I remember when I was in high school, I was unsure and nervous about what my career path may entail. It’s crazy to think that Stanley Black & Decker has played such an integral role in my career journey since the age of 16. I am very proud of what I have accomplished through a combination of strong determination, the right mentors and supportive company culture.

As a junior in high school, Jason joined the Junior Achievement (JA) Entrepreneurial Academy’s partnership with Stanley Black & Decker. He developed a passion for finance and financial literacy through his participation in the program.

“My career in finance started in the program,” Jason shares. “The SBD mentors did a fantastic job explaining what it meant to be a financially healthy company. They taught us how to understand a Profit & Loss (P&L) statement, Balance Sheet and other fundamentals. From this experience, I knew I wanted to build a career in finance.”

Returning to where it all started

After graduating college, Jason joined the company as part of the Stanley Black & Decker Leadership Program (SLP). Through the program, Jason was offered leadership rotations exploring accounting, treasury, operations and financial planning & analysis.

“When looking for leadership programs, I wanted to find one that shared my values regarding community engagement, and with the leadership program’s Social Impact Fellowship opportunity, I knew that Stanley Black & Decker was the right fit,” he explains. “I believe that I am now a well-rounded employee who has experience that would take years to gain in other businesses.

Giving back to the next generation of professionals

As Jason progresses in his career, he wishes to give back to young talent and future employees.

“My managers and mentors made sure that I learned as much as possible in their respective fields, and they showed me how important it is to grow and develop the next generations of talent,” he expresses. “I want to make sure that those new to the company have every opportunity granted to them that I was privileged enough to be shown myself.”

Recently, Jason spoke at the JA Partners in Achievement Breakfast as the lead volunteer of the Stanley Black & Decker-run JA Academy. As he reflects on his experiences with the company and his professional journey, he hopes to inspire the next generation of business leaders and encourage them to pursue their passions.
